highland

dear highland masking tape,
is this weather going to come to an end? more importantly, is this humidity going to come to an end?
yeah, that's what i look like. but thanks to rab's hat, all is well. painting has been going well. after crying about it, i'm back on track. i went from painting this...
to this...

i went from landscapes to figures. hahah, kidding. yeah....maybe emile zola is hot. maybe i do have a crush on a french novelist in an edouard manet painting. and maybe the guy on the right in edouard manet's Le dejeuner seur le'herbe is really hot. yeah, he's not even facing the viewer. so, i crush on people who are long gone or non-existant. ITS NOT EVEN BIG DEAL!!!

youtube videos of the kings of leon make me forget about things....

my favorite moment of the past few days was watching the purple and red sunset from the studio while listening to joanna newsome's "this side of the blue." she would. give her a listen. it's so satisfying listening to a woman's voice. it's about damn time a woman make cool music (personal opinion, of course). well, that's all i feel like sharing for now.

DAYTON. OHIO.

the weekend started out pretty nice. after recovering from someone painting on my painting (i don't care if you are fucking vincent van gogh, don't TOUCH my painting) i got to get all done up for an art auction. a thirty-some room mansion in lansing, to be exact. i didnt even know the neighborhood existed. it was nice seeing people interested in art and donating to the local community for a retirement home. old people whaaat? the weather was nice, the house was amazing, the art was cool, the food was ok. getting food with the mayors wife was nice, as she was a neighbor to the mansion owners (i don't even know who the owners were). anyways, we left early when yin and yang began playing their covers of some "classics" like, brown eyed girl and smooth operator with their two part band. that's when the real fun began. i got to take off my shoes and have a good game of bowling. then we hit up some classy restaurant, a.k.a taco bell. then ended the night with talladega nights. best part of the movie: "why would you want the stereo on at the same time as the tv?" "cause i like to party." hahaha, i tried not to like the movie. anyways, friday night stormed up the idea of taking a road trip to see the one and only kings of leon. i tried to ignore my feelings for it. but then when holy roller novocaine blessed us with their presence in the movie, i knew it was a sign. so, saturday morning after much uncertainty, the three of us loaded up and drove. we drove to ohio. dayton, ohio. DAY-TON. O-HIO. so around 630, there we were, we were in dayton ohio (in case i didnt clarify beforehand). and as usual, the kings of leon rocked my non-existent balls off. i dont even want to get into the details because on the way home caitlin and i put the entire show into a couple of words that, if i told you, you would judge me as one perverted individual. i would like to say some other things though. jared, i'm really sorry for making so much fun of you. i know you are amazing and pretty, i never gave you enough credit. nathan, i have lost a little respect for you after watching the BDO performance of head to toe (yes, i did just make a reference to a youtube video. if you wanna fight me, i probably deserve it). i still love the guy though. caleb....fuggen uh lady lovely locks over here. i almost thought he had extensions in his hair. his voice is unlike any other i have heard and i seem to love them more and more as their albums come out. he has the face of a 17 year old model and pouty pink lips that put angelina jolie to shame. yes, i did. i wish i could pull off half of what he can. slamming honey? he did. long unlayered hair? he did. a cut off jean jacket? indeed. snarling at body surfers? yes. then we come to, oh i dont know, a personal favorite. matthew followill. i really dont have appropriate words for this one, so i'll keep it light. he's so pretty, it hurts. and his vest. and his dream catcher necklace. and jeans that look painted on. and prettier hair than i can ever dream of. and a cigarette, when not resting in his guitar strings, is loosely hanging from his mouth as he is wailing out some mad guitar solos.....i have to stop.

ok, but besides all that dreamy shit about the band, i have to say it. they are my absolutely favorite band. i think there are bands that take themselves too seriously and it's difficult to move around to that music because it almost becomes just about the intellect of composing. and then there are other bands that are just doing it for shits. i like the balance that the kings of leon have because they are obviously serious about their music and passionate about making it a good time. i need to stop nerding. it was mind blowing to see them play their new stuff again (yeah, again. this is the fifth time seeing them live). dear two-microphoned song, SUCK MY PARTY!!!! oooooooooooo, suck my party. this is the exact expression on my face when i heard this one...

it's too bad that they could see my face because of the awkwardly small space between us. all i know is that they are worth every penny. the drive home started right away though. the amount of douche bags at the show was infinite. how and why you would mosh to this music? i dont really want to talk about any of it because it'll ruin all the other stuff. i really need to lay low on going to their shows because i wouldnt be surprised if they had pictures of us plastered in the front of their tour bus with the words "potential threat" in bold under it. JK!!! i just pictured it and laughed aloud. i got to bed at 5:30 in the AM and now i'm at work nerding out about the kings of leon. i think this weekend is going down in history books.
